Mothers are the Best

This is an excerpt from one of my essays for my English class. I  liked it, and I thought I would share. Enjoy :)

My mom has always told me that I have to try my best because if I do not, she will send me to Mexico to live and work there. Through many stories of her life she has given me an insight of how simple my life is compared to hers when she was my age. My mother started working when she was ten years old in order to help bring income into her household. In the mornings, she would attend school, and then she would head to work for the rest of the day. It was a stressful life due to the constant lack of money, and unfortunately she had to quit attending school in order to start working full time. When I was in elementary school, she would always spend hours with me on my homework to the point when I would start crying. Sometimes I would go to sleep late because my mom wanted my homework to be complete and perfect. The endless piles of homework and my mother’s persistence taught me to complete an assignment fully, not just for school, but for life. My mother’s parenting taught me was that trying is not enough, and that in order to fully succeed I had to accomplish something and not just try. For example, when I was in middle school, I received my first “C”, and it happened to be in my algebra class. When my mom saw my average grade she yelled at me for a long time. I tried to explain that it was a difficult class and that I was trying my best, but she told me that was not enough. She said I had to change my grade by the next progress report, and that final. Since then I have put my best effort towards everything I do and I have been successful. When I received a scholarship for having a high G.P.A. in high school, I realized that my mother was telling the truth and that her advice and teaching was valuable. My mother’s way of teaching me might be strict, but I know that she does this in order for me to be the best person I can be. Without my mother, my education today would not be the same, and I would go through life without any type of guidance.

With love,
Jacky

Mexico Continued...

PART 2: Christmas/My Birthday
My Birthday Party was amazing because I got to celebrate it with all the people I love. My uncle is a chef so he cooked the most delicious meal for me on that day. The cake that he baked was also amazing and it was a memorable night.

My New Thing

As I said before, this year I wanted to start trying new things so I went to a boxing class for the first time in my life. First off, let me say that people that work in parks are not as informed on the things and events that happen in the parks, because I called in to say that I was interested in going to the class and he told me that the class didn't start a week until a certain day when in fact it was a recurring class that did not have an end or beginning. So I waited until that day and it turns out that the guy had signed me up for the kid's class. So know this: before actually going to the class and ask whoever teaches the class, instead of the other people that work there. Don't let the other people give you wrong information. Moving on, the first class was hell, not because it sucked, but because I was so out of shape, I had to stop every five minutes. Since I have started going I have learned various moves and I have had more energy than I usually had. I have been trying my best to improve with each class, and I also practice at home. So far, I love it and I try to go as much as possible. I have lost weight since I started the class, so I am feeling great. I hope this inspires you to try something new (that is good and responsible),and that you go out and do it as soon as possible. Para luego es tarde (If you leave it for later, it will be too late).

With much love,
Jacky R.

Mexico 2013-2014

Last December I took a trip back to Oaxaca, Mexico after four years of not going. It's not because I didn't want to go, I just didn't have the money for it (tickets are very expensive towards the Holiday season, but this year I decided I was going to go NO MATTER WHAT. It didn't matter if I had to go on a bus, I was going to go; PERIOD. One of the reasons why I wanted to go was because I missed my family in Mexico and I just had to see them again. I also wanted to go because I wanted to celebrate my 18th birthday over there. I got to see many beautiful places and spend a lot of time with my family. In other words: IT WAS A BLAST! Here are the reasons why: Part 1. HIERVE EL AGUA:
My Family
Tips for visiting: a. When you are going to Hierve el Agua, it is best to have your own method of transportation, otherwise it is hard to get there because there is only one truck that transports people from Mitla to the Recreation Park. Also, there is a fee to to enter the park as well as the truck that transports people to the park. b. Go when the weather is nice and sunny because you will want to get into the ponds. c. If you want to explore the park completely, take good walking or hiking shoes because the terrain is very difficult to walk through. Overall, I highly recommend going because it is very beautiful and you will have a lot of fun going. Other parts of my trip will be coming soon. Stay Tuned for Part 2 tomorrow. Yours Truly, Jacky :)

New Blog Post - Starting Over

I recently looked over this blog because I just remembered I had it. Let me tell you it is weird to come back and look at the stupid thing I had posted about 4 years back. But I realized that I have changed a lot over the years. I have gained new insights and seen new things that I didn't know existed. I have decided that I will try this blogging thing one more time and I will try to keep it updated because one of my goals is to document more things that happen in my life and the things I love as well as the things that bother me. I don't know if anybody will read this but this is my personal goal for this new year and I will not give up on it very easily. Thanks :)
